Google Photos turns your portraits into meme wallpaper with AI

You no longer need to search specialized sites to find those meme wallpapers you love to download. Google Photos has just launched an experimental feature that promises to be the solution for those who want to turn their personal photos into meme wallpapers ready to share or collect. The tool is called Me Meme and uses generative artificial intelligence to transform any portrait into a meme template with just a few taps on the screen.

This new feature is part of Google’s strategy to expand the creative capabilities of its photo app. Alongside other options like collages, highlights, and animations, Me Meme aims to take visual content creation to a whole new level within your gallery.

Me Meme, the new AI tool for generating meme wallpapers

Me Meme is an experimental feature based on generative artificial intelligence integrated into the “Create” menu of Google Photos. Its operation is straightforward: users can choose from several preset templates or import a reference image to customize the result according to their preferences.

For the best results, Google recommends using well-lit, front-facing portrait photos. It’s important to note that, being in the experimental phase, the generated images might not match the original photo exactly, but this doesn’t prevent you from creating unique meme wallpapers without relying on external apps.

The feature democratizes meme creation, allowing any user to generate visual content without advanced design or editing skills.

How to create your own memes with Me Meme in Google Photos

The process is simple and can be completed in just six steps:

  1. Open the Google Photos app on your device.
  2. Go to the “Create” section and select Me Meme.
  3. Choose a template from the available options.
  4. Tap “Add Photo” to upload your image.
  5. Select the photo you want to transform.
  6. Tap “Generate” and wait for the AI to create your meme.

Once the process is complete, you have three options: save the result to your gallery, regenerate the meme with a different variation, or share directly on your social networks. Both iOS and Android users will see an introductory screen with the “Try Now” option to familiarize themselves with the tool before starting.

Availability and expansion of Me Meme in Latin America

Currently, Me Meme is only available to some users in the United States and remains labeled as experimental. This means Google may adjust the feature’s location within the app, modify its templates, or refine styles as it gathers user feedback.

In Mexico and other Latin American regions, there is no confirmed launch date yet. Like other functions that debut in limited release, Me Meme is expected to gradually reach more countries over the coming months.

In the meantime, those wanting to create meme wallpapers can continue to use alternatives like ChatGPT or specialized AI apps. However, once Me Meme becomes widely available, many users will likely prefer the convenience of generating memes directly from their integrated photo gallery.
