(Bloomberg) – Casey Wasserman will remain the head of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic organizing committee after the board and outside counsel conducted a review of his interactions with convicted sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

“We found Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented,” according to a statement from the LA28 committee on Wednesday.

“The executive committee of the board has determined that based on these facts, as well as the strong leadership he has exhibited over the past ten years, Mr. Wasserman should continue to lead LA28 and deliver a safe and successful games,” the board said.

Wasserman, a sports and entertainment talent agent, “fully cooperated” with the review, according to the committee.

His name came up in the trove of Epstein-related documents and emails released last month by the US Justice Department. The files contained flirtatious 2003 email exchanges between Wasserman and Maxwell, an Epstein confidante who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for recruiting girls for sexual abuse by Epstein and for participating in some of the assaults. Epstein was first convicted in 2008 in a Florida state court.

Wasserman has said he went on a 2002 humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation and traveled on Epstein’s plane. He said he never had a personal or business relationship with Epstein and apologized for having any association with either Maxwell or Epstein.

“I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” he said.

Epstein was facing federal charges of trafficking underage girls when he died in jail in 2019. Authorities have ruled it a suicide.

Wasserman’s presence in the Epstein files prompted some LA politicians to call for him to step down from the committee. Several music stars and athletes have also left his talent agency, among them singer Chappell Roan and soccer great Abby Wambach.

The 51-year-old grandson of legendary entertainment executive Lew Wasserman has a busy few weeks ahead. On Thursday, he’s hosting a party in advance of the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles. On Friday, he’s one of a number of people scheduled to speak at the league’s Tech Summit.

On Feb. 26, Wasserman is set to be honored alongside Los Angeles Lakers executive Jeanie Buss at an event at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.
