GM Korea aims to increase its production by 8.5% to 500,000 vehicles in 2026 due to strong export demand, primarily from the US, despite weak local sales. The company’s parent, General Motors, has requested full capacity operation at GM Korea’s two plants and plans to invest $300 million to strengthen manufacturing in South Korea, including retooling for new models and continuing production beyond 2028. This move follows earlier concerns about the future of GM’s vehicle production in South Korea due to US import tariffs.
