Abstract generation in progress

Rafah Crossing Point, connecting Gaza and Egypt, has recently begun the preliminary verification phase, marking an important step toward normalizing traffic along the border route. This testing phase, initiated to ensure optimal operation, involves careful assessment of the technical and security systems that will support daily operations.

Testing Phase and International Coordination

According to available information, the testing phase was launched on February 1 with the participation of a limited number of personnel during the preliminary exercises. A joint oversight structure, composed of Egyptian officials, observers from the European Union, and relevant Israeli security authorities, monitors the process to ensure compliance with international standards.

These testing operations focus on verifying identity control mechanisms and final adjustments to security protocols. The preliminary practice is essential to identify any potential system malfunctions before the full resumption of traffic.

Official Reopening and Implementation Timeline

According to the announced plan, the crossing point is expected to fully reopen for pedestrian traffic in both directions starting February 2. This reopening will mark the end of the testing period and the return to normal operations on the Rafah route.

Procedures and Conditions for Border Crossing

Initially, crossing will operate with restrictions on volume. Individuals intending to cross the border will need to register their details at least 24 hours in advance. After registration, each person will undergo a remote evaluation process conducted by Israeli security officials to ensure compliance with entry requirements.

These measures, although temporary, are a direct result of the testing phase and reflect the need to maintain a high level of security on this critical trade and humanitarian route.
