IT House February 4 News, the giant mechanical hard drive manufacturer Western Digital announced yesterday the official launch of a new brand and logo, with its corporate name also updated from Western Digital to the widely used abbreviation WD.
Western Digital states:
This change reflects the way our customers, partners, and employees have always referred to us, as well as our own evolution and positioning. WD is a data center-focused company and a key driver of AI growth, dedicated to providing the infrastructure that supports the large-scale development of AI. We are a company that continues to move forward and build for the future.
Reaching this point has been made possible through long-term and focused investment. Over the past year, we have been steadily advancing around a series of clear goals: establishing deeper strategic partnerships with customers, driving innovation at an unprecedented pace, further enhancing operational and financial execution, and cultivating a shared culture of values.
Our commitment to these goals is crucial. As AI and cloud computing workloads accelerate data storage demands, one fact has become increasingly clear: only HDDs can truly balance scale, reliability, and cost efficiency, supporting the long-term development of AI infrastructure. WD is ready for this moment.
Today, 90% of our business is closely related to data centers, AI, and cloud computing. We have signed multi-year agreements with key customers who rely on us for long-term capacity planning. Additionally, we successfully joined the Nasdaq 100 index by the end of 2025 and are among the standout companies in the S&P 500 index.
So, what’s next for WD?
Continuing to meet the evolving needs of our customers, focusing more on accelerating breakthrough innovations, and driving the company into a new phase of growth. We are full of anticipation for the future and look forward to upcoming new opportunities. Because in an industry defined by complexity, scale, and high reliability demands, what truly matters is not just how much capacity you can deliver, but how confidently you can deliver that capacity.
IT House notes that with SanDisk’s new product line naming, the transition period following Western Digital’s spin-off from SanDisk last year has at least partially come to an end.
