On February 9th, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that NIO will recall some ES8, ES6, and EC6 pure electric vehicles produced between March 16, 2018, and January 16, 2023, totaling 246,229 units. The recall is due to vehicle software issues that may cause brief blackouts of the instrument panel and central control screen, affecting speed display, fault alerts, and defrosting and defogging functions. Most vehicles have already been remotely upgraded to Aspen 3.5.6 or Alder 2.1.0 and above, requiring no user action; vehicles that have not been upgraded will receive the fix via OTA update.
At the time of this recall announcement, NIO is experiencing a turning point in its operations. On February 5th, the company announced that in Q4 2025, it will achieve its first quarterly adjusted operating profit, estimated between 700 million and 1.2 billion yuan, ending 11 years of continuous losses. Sales growth is the key driver: in Q4 2025, deliveries reached 124,800 units, a year-over-year increase of 71.7%. The new brands Leado and Firefly contributed about one-third of the sales.
On February 6th, NIO celebrated reaching its “100 millionth battery swap service” in Shanghai. As of that time, NIO had built 3,729 battery swap stations and plans to add 1,000 more by 2026. Although the battery swap model has long been viewed as a major loss contributor, NIO remains committed to it as a core ecological advantage. With CATL (300750) entering into a partnership to co-build a battery swap network last March, NIO has taken a significant step forward in profitability, scale, and infrastructure.
