Accident on Calzada de Guadalupe: Train and car collision causes traffic chaos in Mexico City

A collision between a train and a private vehicle at the Hidalgo Railroad and Circuito Interior intersection left one person trapped inside the car on the morning of January 28. The incident occurred in the 7 de Noviembre neighborhood, an area marking the boundary between Gustavo A. Madero and Cuauhtémoc boroughs, causing significant traffic congestion that affected the entire central zone of the city.

According to preliminary reports from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), the event mobilized firefighters, Civil Protection, and security authorities who immediately began rescue operations. Emergency teams were working to extract the trapped occupant. Although initial reports suggested there could be two people involved, the identity and health status of the injured have not yet been confirmed.

Road Closures and Traffic Congestion in the Area

The collision caused a partial closure of both avenues, significantly reducing north-south vehicle flow on Circuito Interior and Hidalgo Railroad. The traffic chaos quickly spread through the most congested connection points in the city, creating long lines of cars trying to clear the affected area.

Traffic authorities warned the public about prolonged delays and recommended avoiding the area until mobility was fully restored. It was estimated that the disruptions could last several more hours.

Alternative Routes from Calzada de Guadalupe and Other Roads

For those needing to travel through the area, traffic authorities suggested multiple alternatives:

  • Avenida Insurgentes Norte: recommended for those heading toward downtown or the northern parts of the city, allowing them to completely bypass the Circuito Interior area

  • Eje 1 Norte (José Antonio Alzate): ideal for detouring around the accident site and rejoining Circuito Interior at later points

  • Eje 3 Oriente (Avenida Eduardo Molina): recommended for eastbound drivers wishing to avoid Hidalgo Railroad

  • Circuito Interior Río de los Remedios: an alternative to ease heavy traffic via a parallel route

  • Calzada de Guadalupe: viable for westbound drivers seeking to connect with other main roads

  • Avenida Tajín: useful for establishing connections with secondary roads and resuming alternative routes

Traffic authorities emphasized that mobility in the area would experience significant delays in the coming hours, pending the completion of rescue operations and the restoration of circulation on both roads. Updates on the condition of the injured and the estimated time to normalize traffic are expected in upcoming reports.
