Abstract generation in progress

In September 2025, on the stage of the US Open, American Amanda Anisimova achieved a major goal. She turned the frustration she experienced just two months earlier in the Wimbledon final into a complete redemption. The 8th seed Anisimova defeated second seed Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3, securing her spot in the US Open semifinals.

Bouncing Back from a Double Bagel

In the Wimbledon final, Anisimova was defeated by Swiatek with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0). As she returned to the locker room crying on Center Court, she felt doubt in her heart. But in that moment, she made a decision.

“I thought at that time, this defeat will ultimately make me stronger. Instead of dwelling on it, I focused on how to become better.” Anisimova said on the court. The 23-year-old player felt it was a turning point in her life. To move forward or stay behind. Without hesitation, she chose the path toward her goal.

Her life has not been smooth sailing. The death of her father, COVID-19, injuries, and in 2023, she took a break from professional tennis citing mental health reasons. A year ago, she couldn’t even qualify for Wimbledon. Now, she has reached the finals and semifinals of a Grand Slam.

Intense Battle: Revenge Against Swiatek

On the 11th day of the US Open, in the women’s quarterfinals, the match between Anisimova and Swiatek was a showcase of tennis precision and psychological warfare.

In the first set, Swiatek was serving at 4-5. Anisimova’s forehand flew out of bounds. However, after winning that set, momentum shifted entirely in her favor.

In the second set, at 4-3, a net cord helped Anisimova. She raised her hand to apologize. In professional tennis, small gestures like this can decide the flow of a match.

Swiatek’s double fault gave Anisimova a 5-3 lead, and the American player served for the match. On her third match point, Swiatek couldn’t chase down the ball, and victory was decided by a net cord. The two players embraced at the net.

After the match, Anisimova celebrated her victory, overcoming break points in both sets. Her head-to-head record against Swiatek had completely changed since the Wimbledon final loss.

The Final Path to Grand Slam Victory

On Thursday night, Anisimova will face either 11th seed Caroline Muhova or 23rd seed Naomi Osaka in the semifinals. She has a 1-0 record against Muhova and a 2-0 record against Osaka.

The final is still ahead. The top seed Aryna Sabalenka and the 4th seed Jessica Pegula are scheduled to face off in the first semifinal, leaving the possibility of an all-American final.

The winner will receive a record-breaking $5 million prize.

“Playing here is truly special. I’m in the best shape of my life right now,” Anisimova said on the court. “When I first came here, I just wanted to get through the first round. But this is like a dream.”

This year, American women’s Grand Slam victories have been consecutive. Madison Keys won the Australian Open, and Coco Gauff won Roland Garros. If Anisimova wins the US Open, she will be the third different American woman to do so.

“Coming back from the Wimbledon final is really special to me. I worked so hard to recover from that,” Anisimova said emotionally after the match. “Today, everything proved that I can do it. This is truly something special.”

ESPN’s Mary Joe Fernandez commented during the broadcast, “Anisimova is playing in a style that can win the US Open. She has enough weapons to beat anyone remaining.”

Amanda Anisimova, who won the junior US Open at age 15, is a different player from her past self. Once troubled by the pressure of high-level tennis and took a break, she is now just one match away from the US Open final and two matches from claiming the title.

The tears at Wimbledon have now turned into smiles at the US Open.
