Winter drought threatens Germany's groundwater reserves

What appears paradox at first glance is now confirmed scientifically: despite snow and ice in many German regions, the current winter is experiencing a significant precipitation deficit. Snowfall Masks the True Water Crisis

The thick snow cover currently covering many areas falsely gives the impression of sufficient water supply. However, the reality is different: winter precipitation is well below the long-term average. This is because most precipitation falls as snow, which is stored initially and does not immediately seep into the ground.

Groundwater Levels Drop Despite Winter Cold

The immediate consequence is reflected in groundwater measurements: levels are continuously declining.
