International Bancshares Corporation is a financial holding company headquartered in Laredo, Texas. It operates four bank subsidiaries through major banking institutions and branches located in southern, central, and southeastern Texas, as well as Oklahoma, providing commercial and retail banking services. The company was originally incorporated in 1979 under the Delaware General Corporation Law. On June 7, 1995, the company’s registration was moved from Delaware to Texas. Organized under the revised Bank Holding Company Act of 1956, it operates as a bank holding company and is regulated by the Federal Reserve Board. As a registered bank holding company, it may own one or more banks and engage in activities closely related to banking either directly or through subsidiaries, all subject to the Bank Holding Company Act and specific Federal Reserve approvals. On March 13, 2000, the company was certified as a financial holding company, allowing it to participate in a broad range of financial and non-financial activities.
