According to Haikou Customs statistics, during the first week of the Spring Festival travel rush (February 2 to February 8), Haikou Customs supervised a total of 1.106 billion yuan in island duty-free shopping, with 191,900 shoppers, and 895,000 items purchased, representing a 6.3%, 26%, and 9.4% increase respectively month-over-month. This year marks the first Spring Festival travel rush since the entire Hainan Free Trade Port was closed off. Driven by the new consumer trend of “returning home” turning into “travel,” the popularity of duty-free shopping continues to rise. During the first week of the Spring Festival travel rush, duty-free stores launched promotional activities such as gift with purchase for spending thresholds and double points, while also increasing supplies of New Year gifts, imported chocolates, high-end spirits, and Spring Festival limited-edition cosmetics to enhance the festive atmosphere.
