IT Home, February 9 — According to Korean media ET News, because Apple plans to continue launching a smaller foldable iPhone Flip after releasing the iPhone Fold large foldable, Samsung Display is currently evaluating expanding its OLED panel capacity for Apple’s foldable products.

The report states that Samsung Display is considering adding foldable OLED production equipment at the A4 factory in Yosan, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, with a focus on upgrading the backplane-related processes, including the thin-film transistor (TFT) production line. The overall direction has already been determined, and once internal reviews of the specific investment scale are completed, the related capital expenditure is expected to start from the second quarter of this year (2026).

Currently, Samsung Display has planned to mass-produce OLED panels for Apple’s first foldable iPhone Fold starting in June this year. The company has already established a dedicated foldable OLED production line for Apple at the A3 factory, with an annual capacity of approximately 15 million units based on 7-inch foldable OLED panels.

Industry experts generally believe that Apple entering the foldable phone market will be a significant catalyst for increasing industry penetration. TrendForce predicts that with Apple’s first foldable device expected to be released in the second half of 2026, the global foldable phone penetration rate will rise from 1.6% in 2025 to over 3% in 2027.
