On February 12, Bloomberg reported that as part of an update to the national capital market infrastructure plan, the UK Treasury has selected HSBC Holdings Plc’s blockchain platform to pilot the issuance of digital government bonds. HSBC stated in a Thursday announcement that issuing bonds via blockchain is expected to improve the structure of the UK debt capital market and accelerate settlement speeds. The announcement also confirmed that its Orion platform has been chosen for the pilot.
