Scholz insists on the immediate ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade agreement despite opposition

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur will be crucial for the development of transatlantic economic relations. Despite serious opposition from some European parliamentarians who plan to challenge it in court, Scholz expressed a firm stance on the need to accelerate the process.

During a speech in Frankfurt earlier this week, the Chancellor announced that the agreement would make a decisive step toward strengthening the EU's position in its interactions with South American partners. According to Scholz, the agreement will enter into force immediately once the first South American country officially ratifies it.

The position of the German leader demonstrates Berlin's desire to oppose bureaucratic delays and expedite the implementation of the trade deal. Scholz emphasized that delaying the process could harm European economic interests, so timely ratification of the agreement is a priority for his administration.
