On February 9th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a routine press conference, during which a reporter asked about the Japanese House of Representatives election. Lin Jian stated that elections are Japan’s internal affairs, but this election reflects some deep-seated structural issues, as well as ideological trends and currents, which are worth deep reflection by all sectors of Japanese society and the international community. The lessons are close at hand and cannot be ignored. We urge the Japanese ruling authorities to face rather than ignore the concerns of the international community, to pursue a path of peaceful development rather than repeating the militarist past. They should adhere to the four political documents between China and Japan, rather than breach trust and abandon commitments. If Japan’s extreme right-wing forces misjudge the situation and act recklessly, they will inevitably face resistance from the Japanese people and a strong response from the international community. China’s policy towards Japan remains stable and consistent and will not change because of a single Japanese election. We once again urge Japan to withdraw its false remarks regarding Taiwan involving Takashi, and to demonstrate genuine sincerity in safeguarding the political foundation of China-Japan relations through concrete actions.
