On February 4th, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lian Jiang provided a detailed comment at the agency’s routine press conference in response to inquiries from foreign journalists. The occasion was prompted by proposals from several U.S. Secretary of State officials to establish a new partnership format aimed at diversifying sources of critical minerals and reducing global dependence on Chinese supplies. According to the financial agency Jin10, Lian Jiang presented Beijing’s official stance on this important issue.

Shared Responsibility in Ensuring the Stability of the Global Supply Chain

Lian Jiang emphasized China’s unwavering position regarding its role in maintaining the stability and security of the international critical minerals supply chain. The Chinese diplomat pointed out that stability in this sector is a common good requiring positive participation from all participants in the global economy, rather than a unilateral approach. The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry underscored that resolving the issue should be based on constructive contributions from all parties aimed at strengthening, not fragmenting, global trade flows.

China Insists on Adherence to International Trade Rules

In the context of the memorandum of understanding between Europe and the United States, Lian Jiang elaborated on China’s principled position on this matter. The official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that Beijing consistently advocates for all countries to adhere to the principles of a market economy and international trade law. Lian Jiang noted that improving communication among all interested parties and strengthening bilateral and multilateral dialogue are key conditions for maintaining the unhindered functioning of the international critical minerals supply chain. According to Chinese diplomacy, these measures contribute to the sustainable development of the global economy as a whole.
