Abstract generation in progress

On February 12, Trump’s $1 billion defamation lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was scheduled for trial in February 2027, marking one of several lawsuits he filed after returning to the White House. U.S. District Judge Roy K. Altman signed an order in Miami on Wednesday setting the trial date, and the judge, appointed by Trump, also required the president and the BBC to complete mediation by November 3. Trump’s lawsuit stems from misleading edits in a documentary released before the 2024 election—clips that implied he directly called for violence during his speech to supporters before the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
