According to a report by the Central Television News on February 9th local time, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that what matters most to Russia is the stance of the United States on Ukraine, rather than statements made by Ukraine or the European Union. He pointed out that after the Anchorage meeting between Russia and the U.S., both countries should have moved toward broad cooperation, but the actual situation was quite the opposite. The U.S. is unwilling to implement the suggestions it made at Anchorage regarding Ukraine. Lavrov also said that Russia has accepted the proposals put forward by the U.S. on Ukraine. He stated that U.S. sanctions on Russian oil companies are an unfair means to suppress competitors, and that the U.S. is trying to control Russia’s military technology exchanges with countries like India. He mentioned that Russia sees no “bright prospects” in economic relations with the U.S., and that the U.S. government has not only failed to question the laws passed by former President Biden as a means of punishing Russia but has also imposed new sanctions. Lavrov said that Russia remains open to cooperation with the U.S., but the U.S. has set up obstacles itself. (CCTV News)
